I’ve been thinking about blogging for a long time now. Long enough that it turned into a thing. Before we go on, let me first introduce myself.

Hi, I’m Val. I am a (recovering) perfectionist, chronic overthinker and over-planner, and I LOVE to travel, create, learn, and try new things, which means I have to be OK with not being an expert… and with failing.

OK, maybe not totally OK with failing but I’m working on it.

Which brings us to this blog.

I got the domain, I’m embarrassed to say, almost a year ago now. I tried what felt like 507 themes and templates, scrolled through every font available…multiple times… like it was going to be permanently etched on my tombstone, and then got so overwhelmed and fatigued over all my non-decisions that I stopped looking at it altogether. For nearly a year.

But out of sight does not mean out of mind.

Like I said, it became a thing. What should have been a fun thing turned into a shadowy monster of a thing constantly reminding me that I left something unfinished. Yikes.

Now, with 3 days left in 2025, I am finally doing the thing. I am officially fulfilling my 2025 goal of starting a blog. SUCCESS IS MINE AT LAST! Published. We are here. So thank you for joining me on this new adventure!

I hope you will join me as I try more things and share my experiences on this page. Here is some of what I think you can expect from me: travel stories and planning tips (did I mention I love to plan??), motorcycle rides, and trying out new recipes and crafts. Let’s learn, and fail, and try again together!

Let me know in the comments what you accomplished in 2025 that you are proud of and what you’d be interested in learning in 2026!

Glad that you pushed past getting all the details “right” and went for it!

    Iteration > “perfection”

2025: Submitted an abstract to a conference, got accepted, and presented! Started on a manuscript

2026: Submit the manuscript (with new data) for publication in a peer-reviewed journal, with the goal of getting feedback. It would be amazing if it could be accepted! 🤞🏻 Process/ journey is more important than the outcome though. Thank you for the inspiration to go bold and learn by doing the damn thing!!

LOVE all of this Jen!! I am finishing up reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert (where the quote on my homepage comes from) and she talks about exactly this. The process is what matters and the joy in it. She also says Done > Good if aiming for the arbitrary and subjective “good” prevents you from getting to done.

That said, I hope the journey gets you the reward at the end as well!
